OP #97 & 98 of 100

Trying Ryan Kelly again. Unfortunately, I lost his smile on the first (left) but I'm really happy with his proportions. I guess I forgot to tilt the drawing board again on the second (right) because I stretched the face and lost the resemblence. Couldn't detail the teeth on this surface because of the texture. Pentel oil pastels on 9x12 inch cheap canson pastel paper that I binded into a sketchbook. Crosspost to artsomofo for #19 & 20.

OP #96 of 100

This is supposed to be Paul Byrom. I've figured out why my portraits have been looking like stretched out caricatures--I'm working flat and my reference is vertical (the monitor). I've suspected this, but what to do? 4x6 inches is too small to prop up. Yea, yea, sketch bigger. When I'm sketching, I don't pre-sketch, else it wouldn't be a sketch, would it?
All that said, Paul's face really is long and so is his nose. It's long and thin. He has an amazing voice, classically trained, he's got fantastic range and he can project!
Crosspost to artsomofo & the wetcanvas's OP forum, I think.

OP #95 of 100

Reference is "Dee" from the WDE that EP is hosting this weekend. Also attempting the challenge at using primary colors only. 30 minutes, oil pastels in the 4x6 inch Aquabee. I'll post this to artsomofo with the sock monkeys and I'm still "minus two scans" but minus one art.

Here's to health

Took Mom to the Public Health Clinic for a flu shot, as none of her doctors had gotten any to dispense. She was not happy at the long wait. This is for scavenger hunt and is also the challenge of the loved one portrait. As this visit was unplanned, I had to leave her there while I went to my dental cleaning appointment. This is pen in my home made sketchbook, 9x12 inch.
For artsomofo, I posted my rollerblades for Day 12. I haven't yet scanned the acrylic portrait I did for Day 13. This would be for day 15, which means I am behind by one day of art.

For day 10 & 11 of artsomofo

Damian McGinty when he was 14. I've definately got his youth, resemblence is close...maybe a cousin? Graphite in the 4x6 inch sketchbook.

And then there's George Donaldson again. Good facial likeness I think. The ear's not right though. Golden's liquid acrylics (payne's gray and white) in the same 4x6 inch aquabee sketchbook. I was surprised how blue this payne's gray is.

Day 9 of artsomofo

Not quite Damian McGinty, plus he looks older here than the 17 years he recently celebrated. I measured and measured, pretty happy with each feature (eye, nose, etc) but together it's not Damian. Not a bad looking guy though. Graphite in the 4x6 inch sketchbook. Crossposted to artsomofo.

Day 8 of artsomofo

Still not Ryan Kelly, darn it. I'm happy with each feature but together, it's still not right. I'm getting closer, though. Graphite in the 4x6 inch aquabee sketchbook. Ooo, I see now I did the big eye, little eye again O_o

Attempting Ryan (Acrylic sketch #45)

Struggled with Ryan all night to get a resemblence but now it's nearly midnight and I have to quit. He always looks like he's smirking, one of those smiles that curves down rather than up at the ends and wierd lips. I'll have to do this again in graphite or charcoal. Crossposting to artsomofo. Oh yeah, acrylics in the 4x6 inch aquabee sketchbook.

Keith

This is Keith Harkin, another one of the five singers in Celtic Thunder. He has a high, soft, lilty voice and he writes his own songs. Graphite in the 4x6 inch Aquabee. Sixth entry (sixth day) to artsomofo. Keith was easy to draw, he has a manga haircut and face. I couldn't do the razor stubble though, I don't like men with stubble.

Acrylic sketch #43 & 44

More George but I struggled with his profile today, not as good a resemblence as yesterday's. I think I've gotten George out of my system. Tomorrow is either Damien or Keith.

Cross posted to artsomofo, it's a daily art challenge for the month of October. Hey, I figured out how to get picassa images to Livejournal [thumbsup]. Now I want to figure out how to put in a paragraph. Same 4x6 inch Aquabee sketchbook as yesterday.

Acrylic sketch #41 & 42

I'm still stuck on George...

We came home early from the weekend because Mom isn't well. We actually never made it to her house. These are acrylic in my 4x6 inch aquabee sketchbook. I'm going to try to crosspost to artsomofo.
